Message Here's the story ...

I bought my Z just over a year ago. Since then i've rebuilt the engine, fixed an untold number of leaks, and installed various electronics. I've always had a huge problem with traction. It was my first real sports car and does have gobs of power (450 whp), but the "snakiness" of the car always seemed not to be quite right. I was unable to put the throttle more than half way down - even in 3rd gear without the tires breaking loose and going sideways. I noticed not being able to keep up with some pickup trucks in 1st and 2nd as i had to always be feathering the throttle. I just attributed the problem to the fact that the car had more power than i was used to. I considered the tires right away, but they had a fair amount of tread (1/8 inch above the wear indicators at least). Anyway, to make a long story a little shorter, i finally bought new tires yesterday and WOW, it's like a brand new car. Basically Zero "snakiness" and crazy acceleration. I can actually pretty much floor the accelerator (although i'm still a little hesitant to do so as i'm used to going sideways when i do). The ride quality is also night and day - it feels like i have all new suspension! I'm trying to figure out how this is possible? The only thing i can think of is that the old tires were quite old and the rubber had hardened to the point where traction / shock absorbtion was basically non-existant. Is this possible? They were good quality tires - avs intermediates i believe. Just a tip for anyone else out there who's having traction / ride quality issues.

btw - i bought falken 452's if anyone cares. they're awesome (but then again most likely any tires would seem awesome compared to my old ones!)
